Rants: Need Out Of My Head
If you get offended easily, or are hyper sensitive to current social issues and the “feelings” of people, stop reading.
If you think cursing is the devil speaking, or are stuck in the middle ages, stop reading.
I’m writing these rants as a way to get them out of my head. I don’t want to think about them any more, they make my head hurt. Writing them down here, essentially a braindump of them, makes my head become lighter.
Pronouns
First let me caveat this rant with the following: if you are a man loving a woman, a man loving a man, or a woman loving a woman, awesome. Love is hard to find and you do you and love who you think is best. There is nothing wrong with this, and I will fight for your right to do so. If you are a man wishing to be a woman or vice versa and you change your gender, wonderful! I will call you by your new name and celebrate with you the fact that you are now who you want to be. I also understand that some people don’t think they fit either gender. They don’t want to be put in a box, and since we are all people, I will make sure I and everyone around you respects that. There is nothing wrong with being yourself.
I will fight for your right to marry whoever you want to marry and be happy. I will also, as I’ve done already with one of my best friends, be happy to walk you down the aisle as you marry that person, regardless of gender.
However, what I will not accept is the use of “they” as a pronoun for a single person. Sorry, but I can’t.
English has five singular pronouns. Singular, as in one person. Me, you, him, her, and it. “They” is the 3rd person plural. Not singular. Now, “it” is the 3rd person singular neutral. Neutral, no gender. I understand you don’t want to use “it”. However “they” is for multiple people. Unless you are a schizophrenic with multiple personalities, I will not call a single person “they”. it confuses me when I have to use “they” for one person. It makes no sense.
I will not. Simple.
Yes, blame English or even hate me. I don’t hate you, but I can’t call you “they”.
Please invent a new one if you don't want to use “it”.
Political Correctness?
Again, I’ll start with a disclaimer. I'm not on the right, and I'm not on the left. I am most definitely not on the extreme right or the extreme left. People in both extremes are equally deranged assholes. I’m in the middle, with some liberal ideas that attract me, and some more conservative ideas that attract me as well. But for the most part I’m trying to find balance in a country that can’t seem to find it any more.
With that in mind, I am tired of political correctness.
I respect the person in front of me, regardless of color, religion, job, or whatever. If you are a good person you will get my respect. So, why am I being forced by politically correct people to have to always be on my toes about whatever I say or do?
Oh, did I offend your “feelings”? Toughen up please, what are you, a little kid?
Come on, enough. It’s time we go back to getting thicker skin.
I don’t know if Bill Maher actually said the following, but I find it summarizes what I want to say better:
The difference is that liberals protect people, and P.C. people protect feelings. They don’t do anything. They’re pointing at other people who are somehow falling short of their standards, which could have changed three weeks ago. They’re constantly moving the goalposts so they can go, “Gotcha!” For example, when I was growing up, the most liberal thing you could do is not see color. Well, that’s wrong now. You see color, always, so you can register your white privilege. But I grew up in the Martin Luther King era: Judge by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. I still think that’s the best way to do it. Not see it.
Religions Are All Fucked
Yes, organized religions are all fucked. No, I don’t mean don’t believe in god, or be spiritual. I mean, organized religions. The constructs done by men to keep other “god-fearing” men apeaced and unable to think for themselves.
Furthermore, why are you trying to force your middle-ages view of the world on me? Why are you trying to force your religion on everyone? This country is not a religious country, any religion. In fact the First Amendment makes sure of that:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Then why change the original Pledge of Allegiance: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
And add “under god” to it?
Why?
Don’t push your bullshit on me.
Don’t push your sense of morals based on something I don’t follow. Do you want to follow them? Awesome. Don’t force it on me.
Oh, and yes, if your morals say that abortion is wrong, ok, don’t do an abortion, but don’t force it on everyone else. A woman’s body and what to do with it, is her own and her own choice. Your morals cannot tell her what to do.
Wait, did I touch a nerve? Please... During the initial stages of the COVID vaccine roll out you were all “the government will not tell me what to do with my body!”, but you and your BS religion can tell a woman what to do with her? Hypocrite.
So please stop it.
