A Quieter Web Experience

As I was researching information for a project I’m working on, the thought of a better, quieter web experience kept on playing in my head.

Pretty much every website I have been visiting for my research had ads, some form of tracking, moving things (a video playing, pop ups, etc), and / or forced you to subscribe “for free” to read the rest of the content. It was all very distracting and noisy. What if there was another way? A quieter way? A way to read content without noise… Yeah, a quieter web.

I read some time back a post about this, and at the time I thought it was a cool idea, but only now, a couple of years later, I find this issue something worth thinking about. Maybe because I have been focused on simplifying everything, and actively searching for a better experience altogether, or maybe because I’m simply tired of distractions or being sold stuff.

I don’t know. Whichever it is, I’m finding the need for a quieter web experience more and more appealing and needed.

I wonder if things like The Forest may help. Maybe we all should put a bit of effort on simplifying our websites and serving quiet content. Think about it. How would you feel if you land on websites that do not distract you with endless unrelated stuff, or try to get you to buy things, or ask you to subscribe? Simple things that can make an experience so much better, I think.

For now, at least, I’ll try with my own site. I hope I’m doing this right.
