Non-Negotiables

We live in a crazy and busy world. It's easy to get swept away by the constant demands and distractions. That's why I think certain practices are a must for all of us, "non-negotiables" that can provide the stability and peace we need to go forward. For me, two non-negotiables are key: moments of quiet in the morning and access to nature.

Moments of quiet in the morning means starting the day with quiet time. Before the world kicks into high gear, those first moments of stillness set the tone for the entire day. Whether it’s a cup of coffee, a few minutes of meditation, or simply sitting in silence, this time allows me to ground myself and align the rest of the day. Quiet moments are sacred and hard to find, so I made this a non-negotiable.

Access to nature is another one that is a must. Nature has a profound ability to reset my head and restore calm. A walk through the woods, a hike in the mountains, maybe some rock climbing, or just a quiet moment by the ocean, being in nature is a non-negotiable for my sanity's sake. It reminds me to slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate the simple beauty around me.

Incorporating these non-negotiables into daily life is not easy, but I'm making it happen. I need to find ways of creating space for clarity and peace amidst the noise, or I become a ball of anger.

Ask yourself: what are the non-negotiables? What can you carve out of your day to ensure you stay centered? For me, quiet mornings and nature will always be at the top of the list.
